Lionel Messi scored Barcelona's first goal of the La Liga season after just 3 minutes as they cruised to victory by three goals to nil away at Racing Santander.
Barcelona started emphatically, boasting new signing David Villa who was eager to prove himself in the best team in the world.
It was World Cup hero Andres Iniesta that provided Messi with a delightful through ball on the 3rd minute. Messi latched onto it and beat the defender for pace before executing an exquisite lob over the oncoming goalkeeper.
Iniesta doubled the lead on the 32nd minute with an even more exotic finish. The ball was punched out by the goalkeeper and Iniesta somehow lob-volleyed the ball into the net from the edge of the area. It was a delightful finish and one Iniesta will be proud of.
Victor Valdes was called into action minutes later as he saved from the penalty spot keeping Barcelona in the clear.
New signing David Villa, who had been lively all game, scored Barcelona's 3rd on the 63rd minute, heading home a terrific Dani Alves cross with power. It was a terrific performance from Barcelona which they will take great confidence from going forward in the La Liga season.
