Atletico Madrid triumphed over Barcelona on Sunday, winning by two goals to one at the Vicente Calderon stadium.
Lionel Messi featured for Barcelona but couldn't do much as Atletico Madrid performed brilliantly, rising to the occasion. It was Barcelona's first defeat in La Liga so far this season.
The goals came early. Atletic Madrid took the lead on the 9th minute through Urguayan marksman Diego Forlan. He scored a typically cool finish one-on-one against Valdes to put his side ahead from the edge of the penalty area.
The second was even better. Simao, the Portugese international, scored from a free kick, bending the ball into the top corner. Victor Valdes was helpless.
Barcelona pulled one back in the 27th minute through Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but Los Colchoneros stayed strong for the remainder of the game to hang onto all three points.
